Alicante is a historic city located on the Costa Blanca, where ancient architecture blends with the more modern. Alicante’ s old town, El Barrio, has narrow streets, colourful houses and a busy nightlife. From here, you can walk or take the elevator to the medieval Castillo de Santa Bárbara, an ancient fortress, which has become a symbol of the city. It is located almost 200 metres above sea level. From the top, you can enjoy panoramic views of the Mediterranean coast, the harbour and the city. Apart from this hilltop area, Alicante is quite flat and easy to explore on foot.

On the outskirts of Alicante, there are many beautiful areas, such as Arenales del Sol, Gran Alacant, Santa Pola, San Juan and El Campo, that offer fine beaches, promenades, restful green areas and a quieter pace.

About 12 km north of Alicante lies the little fishing village of El Campello, which can easily be reached by tram or car. Discover the bustling marina and enjoy shopping in the fresh fish market. Or take a stroll along the beautiful promenade, sampling authentic Spanish food from the many cafes and restaurants. You can relax on the stunning beach of Playa Muchavista and enjoy the pearly white sand.

The Alicante area boasts 244 km of fantastic coastline which naturally lends itself to an abundance of watersports. Kayaking and kite surfing are among the many activities on offer.

There are numerous beaches in this area. Some are long and sandy and popular with families and some are hidden, their beauty waiting to be discovered. In Alicante, you will find the city beach of Postiguet, a beach with crystal clear water and several restaurants.

If you want to experience nature and green areas, visit the large nature reserve in Las Salinas which is home to a rich variety of birds including flocks of flamingos. For another great outdoor experience, a visit to Las Cuevas de Canelobre will give you a chance to see the awesome natural caves. This spectacular cave system is the longest and deepest in Spain.

Another trip worth taking is to Cabo de Santa Pola where you can enjoy spectacular views from the Atalaya Watchtower. Santa Pola Aquarium is a family attraction situated in the middle of the small town.
