Welcome to Malaga - The perfect combination of beach life and big-city vibe. Once an industrial centre, over recent years it has undergone a transformation, becoming a thriving cultural centre with an eclectic mix of old and new.

Malaga's history

The history of Malaga is everywhere from the Centro Historico, the old city centre to the numerous museums you will find around every corner. In the old city centre, Centro Historico, there are museums to visit around every street corner. One of the city's most famous is the Picasso Museum, where you can view over 280 works by the world-famous painter of the same name, who also happens to have been born in Malaga. Another of Malaga's famous sons is actor Antonio Banderas, known to many as Zorro. Although he now lives in the US, if you are lucky you may see him wandering around the town.

Over 1,000 years of Malaga's history can be easily found all over the city. Right next to the city centre you will find the Moorish fortresses of Gibralfaro and Alcazaba, the latter of which is over 1000 years old and is considered to be one of the best-preserved Moorish fortresses in Andalusia.

Climate and excursions

Malaga gets around 300 days of sun per year; lazy days on the beach calls to you, thanks to the subtropical Mediterranean climate you can relax in the sun all year round. Malaga offers many beautiful, long beaches, perhaps the most famous of which is the Malagueta beach, a short stroll from the city centre. If you are looking for a more active excursion destination; you could choose from any of the nearby golf courses, go on a hiking trip, or why not climb the mountains at Vale de Abdalaji or try paragliding from them!

Airport and communications

Malaga Airport can be found 9 km southwest of the city. Malaga is accessible either choosing the subway or one of the 41 bus lines that operate throughout the city during the day. Since Malaga is a relatively compact city, it is possible to walk to a great extent between the different districts.

If you want to explore other Spanish cities, you can get to Malaga train station where, among other destinations, it is possible to travel to Madrid in just over two and a half hours by express train.
